Several traditional media organizations are using Twitter to distribute breaking news and alerts in a timely manner. Many media employees are also using Twitter to inform their followers of news as they happen, before they get back to the newsroom.
I’ve tried to condense a list of traditional media organizations using Twitter, with links to their Twitter accounts and graphs of their Twitter usage. I’ve only included those that have recent activity.
If you know of a news organization using Twitter as a distribution outlet, drop me a message through the comments form below, indicating their name and Twitter account.

2Thanks for this list, it’s great.
@dompost (the Dominion Post, Wellington, New Zealand) is publishing news to Twitter now.
I’m not working for any particular news organisation but consult to newspapers and work with journalism schools in NZ. I’m @starrjulie

We were one of the first, if not the first, news site pushing updates to Twitter if I remember correctly.

6Should add @livenewscameras http://twitter.com/livenewscameras . They have off-air feeds coming from tons of local TV stations and a live moderator tweets what is interesting to watch. Press conferences, events, election rallies. Pretty cool.

8Could probably add http://www.twitter.com/mlive to the “other” category. We set out to follow everyone from Michigan and aggregate their tweets at http://www.mlive.com/twitter - It’s a network we’re still working on developing, but has come in handy for sending out breaking news.

9Ah, forgot to mention. My site is MLive.com, the online arm of Booth Newspapers in Michigan. We have eight newspapers, but none of them are actively managing their own Twitter accounts at present.

17Great list of Twitter sources. Interesting to see how many professional sources are using it.
Would like a twitter tranlator for some of these overseas and foreign language twitters.

18At The Courier Mail in Brisbane, Australia, there are actually about 21 Twitter accounts running, ranging from breaking news (listed in your post) to sport, features, and entertainment news.
The New York Times also has a whole bunch of feeds, as does the BBC and some of the larger media organisations.
I did a post a while ago documenting Australian media using Twitter.
As a point to Geoff about The Age, that Twitter feed hasn’t been updated since May last year.

20I’m the digital media producer for WAAY-TV in Huntsville, AL. My Twitter address is http://twitter.com/ariedana.
Also, we have a Twitter account at http://twitter.com/waaytv, but it’s currently non-functioning because our CMS provider’s RSS feeds don’t work with Twitterfeed. If any WorldNow stations have managed to get past that, I’d appreciate it if they’d get in touch with me.

Thanks!
