What’s next in telecommunications? | Tech News on ZDNet
What’s next in telecommunications?
As the most influential executives in the telecommunications
industry gather this week in Las Vegas for their annual powwow, they’re
more likely to be talking about TV than phones.
Judging from the diverse list of keynote speakers, it’s easy to see
that the phone business is readying itself for cataclysmic change. The
traditional telecommunications market has already begun consolidating in anticipation.
New technology developments are making it possible for content owners,
such as Disney, and Internet companies, such as Google and Yahoo, to
also become competitors to the cable and phone companies, since these
companies will also be able to deliver telephony and video services.

Apple TV: wait and sue | The Register.
For worse, the online media market continues to fracture into the haves and the have nots - those that have partnered with Apple and those that have not.
Media companies baffling the public with their ineptitude is nothing new. Apple had to drag the labels kicking and screaming to iTunes. Now, Apple has had to show the mogul crowd how to do a subscription service right by this week offering a discount on TV shows (The Daily Show and The Colbert Report) and letting consumers keep their programs. Why Napster, Real and the RIAA think making music disappear at the end of an expensive subscription will prove attractive is anyone’s guess.

First full-length movie available in iTunes Store.
Although the movie isn’t the latest Hollywood blockbuster, the made-for-TV Disney Channel original movie by the name of “High School Musical” is nonetheless the first full-length movie to be offered through the iTMS.
At 487Mb it’s a little more than the usual music download, however that hasn’t stopped a $1.99 price tag, the same as a episode of Lost or Desperate Housewives, being pinned on the download.
